Frank James Bailey

About me…

My name is Frank James Bailey. I’m a voice actor and a published author. I’ve been a self employed voice actor since 2009. Before that I was in radio for over 20 years.

You know, maybe I should go back a little further….

In my high school years (way back in the late 80’s) I only wanted to do 2 things in my life more than ANYTHING. Write and be a radio DJ. Even though writing helped me feed my wild imagination, radio seemed like the best career option at the time. So just after high school I went to broadcasting school.

Anyway…between 1988 (the start of my radio career) and now, I never forgot my love for writing.

When I was a kid, I used to write short stories (just for fun) and put myself in my favorite TV shows and cartoons. One time I wrote I had the Omni from the TV show Voyagers! I traveled through time with Phineas and Jeffery making things right in time. Or another time I was a member of G-Force in the cartoon Battle Of The Planets. I guess this would be sort of like fan-fiction today.

I even wrote a lot of original stuff too. Again, very short stories. I helped my best friend in high school get an A on his creative writing assignment. I gave him the story idea, he wrote out the details.

Getting back to my broadcasting career; in 1988 I went to broadcasting school to pursue a career in radio. I took to it like a duck to water. I even worked as a night club DJ spinning dance hits too. I could beat mix and scratch like you wouldn’t believe.

I was a radio announcer AND a night club DJ. I was a double threat!

In the early 90’s my imagination started to bubble within me again. I felt the need to write but I resisted. After all, I had a radio career I wanted to get off the ground. So I started to collect comic books to sort of “ease” that imagination monster. This was about the time the TV show – The Flash – was on the air. In the 90’s I collected a lot of Flash comics.

By 1999 I couldn’t take it anymore. I needed to write! I started writing screenplays. Funny thing was, writing a screenplay came very natural to me. It was actually easy. I like to write the way most screenplays are written. Telling the reader what they are seeing, what the character is doing next…that sort of thing. Plus when a character needed to talk, all I had to do was place their name in the center of the page and write the dialogue. I didn’t have to worry about the “he said / she said” crutch.

From 1999 – 2005 I wrote 4 full length feature screenplays and 5 shorts. Nothing ever sold. So by 2005 I did everything I could to find my next radio job.

In 2009 I was let go from my last radio job. I redirected my career again and this time I was driven to be the best voice actor I could be. As time went on I found out what I was good at and what I wasn’t. Audio books and e-books, not for me! Explainer videos and commercials, yep…I can make those sound AWESOME!

I loved doing character voice work too. This gave me an excuse to watch cartoons with my kids. I would watch a cartoon like Scooby Doo, Fairly Odd Parents or Kim Possible and try and imitate some of the characters. It was a good vocal exercise. Secretly I was also watching because I LOVED cartoons. Cartoons helped me feed my imagination again

In late 2013 I joined a group called Project Possible, a Kim Possible fan site. It was great. I was voicing characters and I loved it. The funny thing was, as I was taking my morning walks, I was imagining Kim and Ron in one last TV movie, one last big adventure before they got married. I think this is what KP fans really want anyway. I was thinking…I could WRITE a story or a treatment and write this movie for the fans!

As I walked, I shook my head and tried to stop myself. No…no! I’m a voice actor. I need to stay focused on making my voice over career bigger and better. It’s what brings in the money…well, when I land the jobs.

Unfortunately my wife knows that sometimes I can’t shut my mind off. Once an idea is planted in my mind, it’s hard for me to let go. My imagination can literally keep me up at night.

As time went on I started to imagine my own ideas again. Not Kim Possible stories anymore. I turned my daughter into Princess Paige. Princess Paige had magical powers. Then Princess Paige slowly turned into…TERCONA! (My daughter’s name “Paige” is the name of Tercona’s alter ego.)

In early 2014 I stared writing and developing the first book of Tercona.

Between 2005 and 2014 the writer in me had been lying dormant for way to long. Now that this creative monster in me has been released again there’s no turning back! NOT EVER AGAIN.

I’m 53 years old, I’ve been married for 16 years, I have 2 kids, and my career focus has (sort of) changed again.

In case you’re wondering, YES. I‘m still a voice actor. Like I said, being a voice actor is my job! I’ve been doing it for a long time and I’m good at it.

It’s just – I love to write too. If I’m not spending time with my wife and kids or doing voice jobs…I’m writing.

As of 2022 Tercona has turned into 3 illustrated novels, 6 comics with more comics on the way. This Tercona project is fulfilling my love to be creative and write.

But wait, there’s more….

Coming in 2022 – my first romance novel! It’s called The Taming Of April. If it was a move it would be a rated R romantic comedy. This is NOT for kids.

I love Tercona and I’m going to continue the series for a long time but as a writer I wanted to see what other stories I could tell. This book is defiantly something totally different!
